Elizabeth Davis Firestone

Elizabeth Firestone was the grand-daughter of Peter and Pheby Mottice, and occupied a special place in his heart. She was probably born between 1828 and 1836. I have so far been unable to locate a death record for her. Her mother was evidently Mahala Mottice Davis, daughter of Peter and Pheby.

According to Peter Mottice's will:

"I give, devise and bequeath, to my beloved grand daughter Elizabeth Firestone, one hundred and twenty five dollars, to be paid to her two years after my decease. But if she shall die before that time leaving no children of her own, the money is to remain as part of my Estate."

According to Charles Mottice's history, Elizabeth's husband was Corwin Firestone. Yet Census records do not show this, nor do their dates coincide readily. Corwin Firestone was born in 1853 -- two years before Peter died. Peter's will (excerpt above) makes reference to Elizabeth Firestone in 1852, which is clearly impossible if her "husband" was born after this.

I speculate that her husband would have been born somewhere around 1830. The only Firestone patriarch I find in the Waynesburg area was a Mathias Firestone who had a large family by two wives. Corwin was a son of the second wife, and all those children came too late to be married to Elizabeth.

A more likely husband would have been found from the sons of Mathias' first wife, one of whom was John F. Firestone born in 1831. I'll guess that he was the Firestone married to Elizabeth. When Peter's estate was sold, the records indicated all buyers. Of those buyers, the only Firestone was John Firestone.
