The Reip family is related to the Elliott family by way of Goldie Reip who married Bernard Elliott. We have quite a lot of information about the Reips, largely from the work of Luverne Hanger who was a 1st cousin of Goldie Reip.
In 1987, Luverne produced a Reip genealogy where the principal family group was her and Goldie's common grandparents, Peter A. Reip and Luverna Ellen Downey.
This genealogy starts with a Nicholas Reib (with a 'b' pronounced like 'p') who was born sometime before 1755 in Pennsylvania. This document traces Nicholas' ancestors through the 6th generation, which is that of Goldie and Luverne.
She also produced an outline of ancestors to Peter and Luverna Ellen, and was able to trace family lines back to George Calvert (1582-1625), the first Lord Baltimore and original title to the lands that make up most of the present day state of Maryland. This lineage occurs through Peter Reip's maternal grandfather, Robert Chenoweth. For several generations prior to that, from roughly 1700 to 1750, the Chenoweths and Calverts intermarried.
